Money transfer fintech Wise has informed its customers that they may have been affected by the recent hack at Evolve Bank & Trust.
Last week, Evolve confirmed that it had been compromised after the Russia-linked LockBit ransomware gang posted stolen customer data on the dark web. Wise collaborated with Evolve from 2020 to 2023 to provide USD account details, which means the bank has access to sensitive information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, contact details, Social Security Numbers (SSNs) or Employer Identification Numbers (EINs) for U.S. customers, as well as identification document numbers for non-U.S. customers.
While Wise has not yet received specific information regarding the data that may have been compromised, the company is actively investigating the situation and plans to notify all customers it believes could be affected.
Evolve partners with various fintech companies, and several of them, including Affirm, EarnIn, Marqeta, Melio, and Mercury, have confirmed that they are looking into whether the breach impacts their customers.
