Wells Fargo and Google Unveil AI Assistant ‘Fargo’

Wells Fargo has officially launched Fargo, a new virtual assistant incorporating Google Cloud’s AI technology, aimed at enhancing the retail and consumer banking experience.

During the unveiling at the Money20/20 conference, Yolande Piazza, Vice President of Financial Services at Google Cloud, alongside Michelle Moore, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital at Wells Fargo, shared that Fargo will be accessible to all clients starting in early 2023, after a year of development.

Piazza emphasized that Wells Fargo has utilized Google’s advanced AI technology to create a unique customer experience, allowing clients to manage their finances in a way that mimics casual text messaging among friends.

She mentioned, “Hyper-personalization is crucial and has moved beyond a novel concept; it is now an expectation among consumers. Fargo focuses on providing different connectivity and enhancing the customer journey.”

Moore elaborated on Fargo’s capabilities, stating, “What Fargo does is provide the context behind financial activities. Unlike traditional mobile apps that present binary options, Fargo delivers personalized financial insights, which is essential for addressing customer needs effectively.”

Key features of Fargo include:
– Highlighting unexpected transactions or unusual payments
– Simplified budgeting tools
– Identification of potential savings opportunities and debt consolidation advice

Piazza noted that Fargo is built on Google Cloud’s core conversational AI platform, Dialogflow, which leverages advanced language processing to understand customer intents and respond accordingly.

Importantly, Wells Fargo retains ownership of all models, ensuring that Google does not access any customer data, making for a unique testing process.

Moore concluded with appreciation for the collaboration, stating, “It has been incredible to join forces with Google to help millions manage their finances. This journey has been truly remarkable.”
