Visa is set to introduce globally a new line of cards crafted from recycled plastic for all financial institutions.
This initiative features a partnership with CPI Card Group to create the “Earthwise High Content Card,” utilizing up to 98% upcycled plastic. The card meets EMV standards and supports dual interface technology, allowing for both contact and contactless transactions.
Douglas Sabo, Vice President and Head of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability at Visa, remarked, “Our collaboration with CPI represents a significant step towards our goal of promoting inclusive growth while prioritizing environmental sustainability. We are excited that this innovation will benefit both the payments industry and the planet.”
The Earthwise High Content Card expands CPI’s Earth Elements line of environmentally friendly payment solutions, which also includes Second Wave, a card incorporating materials made from recovered ocean-bound plastic.
