UBS has appointed Daniele Magazzeni, formerly of JP Morgan, as its first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, marking a significant step in integrating AI at the executive level. Reporting to Chief Operations and Technology Officer Mike Dargan, Magazzeni’s role is crucial in advancing UBS’s AI strategy, with a focus on enhancing client experiences and boosting employee productivity.
Based in London, he will lead the newly established Chief AI Office, which is tasked with ensuring the effective implementation of AI-driven tools and processes across the organization, while upholding consistent standards.
Before joining UBS, Magazzeni was the Chief Analytics Officer at JP Morgan, overseeing AI initiatives in the EMEA region and across the Commercial and Investment Banking divisions. His tenure included developing AI capabilities and establishing governance frameworks. He also served as an Associate Professor of AI at King’s College London.
Dargan expressed enthusiasm about Magazzeni’s appointment, stating, “AI is a strategic priority for UBS. We are excited to welcome Daniele, whose expertise in integrating AI into business operations will drive measurable efficiency and unlock commercial benefits. As Chief AI Officer, he will enhance our deployment of traditional, generative, and agentic AI capabilities to revolutionize our operations and deliver innovative solutions to our clients.”
Earlier this year, UBS unveiled a series of ambitious AI initiatives, known as “Big Rocks,” aimed at driving widespread improvements throughout the firm. Currently, UBS has over 300 active use cases for AI, introducing tools like M365 Copilot and an in-house assistant named Red to its workforce.
