Triodos Bank’s £2 Million Rewilding Bond Secures Funding in Less Than 48 Hours

Triodos Bank UK, in partnership with the rewilding charity Trees for Life, has successfully raised £2 million through a crowdfunding bond within just 48 hours of its launch. This achievement highlights the increasing interest in rewilding as a viable investment avenue.

The initiative attracted an average investment of £4,800, with 8% of the investors hailing from Scotland. The funds will be allocated to the development of the world’s first rewilding center in the Scottish Highlands, which is expected to create at least 15 new full-time equivalent jobs, thereby positively impacting the local economy.

Founded in 1980, Triodos Bank has established itself as a leader in sustainable banking on a global scale. As an independent bank, it is committed to promoting responsible and transparent financial practices that prioritize both environmental and social considerations alongside financial returns.

Bevis Watts, CEO of Triodos Bank UK, stated, "This marks the first time we’ve provided investors with the opportunity to directly support a rewilding charity, and we are thrilled by the overwhelming response. It’s evident that people across the UK are deeply passionate about safeguarding our natural environment and are eager to invest in such initiatives. We believe that caring for the planet is essential to our future prosperity, and this strong interest in our offering confirms that many share this perspective."

Steve Micklewright, CEO of Trees for Life, expressed his gratitude, saying, "While we’ve always received tremendous support from volunteers and donors within our community, we were truly taken aback by the enthusiasm from our investors. We are excited to advance our mission to connect thousands of people with nature."

Investors in this crowdfunding bond will enjoy a gross interest rate of 6% per year over the course of its nine-year term.

This announcement coincides with the launch of ekko’s crowdfunding campaign for its eco-friendly debit card and app, signaling a growing trend towards sustainable financial products.
