Toulouse Introduces Cryptocurrency Payment Option for Commuters

Public transport passengers in Toulouse can now pay for their rides using bitcoin.

In a European first, the city’s public transit operator, Tisséo, has introduced a system that allows individuals to purchase Metro, bus, tram, and cable car tickets with various cryptocurrencies.

Tickets can be bought on Android devices, with a third-party provider converting the cryptocurrencies into euros. However, not all passengers are enthusiastic about this development. Sixty-year-old Patrice expressed to Le Parisien, “It seems like a false modernity to me because for me, cryptocurrency is good for investing, but I’m not convinced it’s suitable for paying small amounts.”
