Tehanu Executes the World’s First ‘Interspecies Money’ Transfer

Africa-based startup Tehanu has successfully executed its inaugural ‘interspecies money’ transfer, facilitating monetary transactions through digital wallets linked to the conservation efforts for Rwandan mountain gorillas.

This groundbreaking initiative creates a conservation-based revenue stream for agents utilizing Tehanu’s AI model. These agents assess the needs of the gorillas and receive mobile payments upon the completion of related conservation activities.

In an interview with Finextra, Tehanu’s leadership elaborated on their innovative approaches to biodiversity and nature conservation, emphasizing their commitment to supporting wildlife while enhancing data collection related to environmental stewardship.

Tehanu is collaborating with the Rwanda Ministry of Finance to safeguard these gorillas, whose ecological significance is estimated to be valued at $1.55 billion.
