Canada’s TD Bank is set to establish a new branch of its Layer 6 AI research and development center in New York. This move follows TD’s acquisition of the Toronto-based AI startup in 2018, which aimed to harness its expertise in deploying machine learning technologies throughout the bank’s operations.
The new office, scheduled to open in 2025, will initially host around 20 professionals, including data scientists, applied machine learning specialists, and experts in Generative AI. They will be based at TD’s office at One Vanderbilt, allowing the team to tap into a vibrant talent pool and enhance support for the bank’s extensive American operations.
Luke Gee, Chief Analytics and AI Officer at TD, remarked, “Recent breakthroughs in Generative AI offer us significant opportunities. By collaborating across the bank, we aim to fully leverage this transformative technology, with Layer 6 continuously setting the standard in innovation and thought leadership.”
