Swiss fintech company Neon has introduced an innovative sustainable banking account, designed to promote eco-friendly practices. This account, which incorporates certified CO2 compensation through myclimate, features a commitment to plant five trees for every user each month.
Available exclusively through the Neon mobile app, the subscription-based account costs CHF 5 per month and includes a Mastercard designed for everyday transactions. Users can take pride in the environmental impact of their spending, as the account pledges to plant a tree for every CHF 100 spent. The app provides insights into the number of trees individually planted by users as well as the total contributions from the entire Neon green community.
Additionally, the account promotes sustainable investment opportunities in collaboration with Neon partner Yove and includes a developing feature for tracking carbon consumption, which informs users about the emissions resulting from their financial activities.
Since its pilot launch in December 2020, over 250,000 trees have been planted through 1,500 accounts, with 65,000 trees planted via consumption in the last five months alone.
Julius Kirscheneder, CMO and co-founder, asserts, “We aim to provide users with an account that facilitates sustainable impact effortlessly, enabling us to make Switzerland’s banking sector more environmentally friendly.”
Neon currently boasts 70,000 users utilizing its standard banking app, with account management carried out by Hypothekarbank Lenzburg.
