Stripe’s chief technology officer, David Singleton, is set to step down and will be succeeded by his deputy, Rahul Patil.
Singleton announced his decision on LinkedIn, stating that he plans to start his own company after nearly seven years with the payments giant. He shared that he initially reached out to Patrick Collison and Claire Hughes Johnson in 2017 for advice about a startup he was planning, which ultimately led him to join Stripe.
Now, Singleton feels it’s time to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations again. He will remain at Stripe until October to facilitate a smooth transition to Patil, who has been with the company for four years and became deputy CTO in January. Prior to Stripe, Patil worked at Oracle, AWS, and Microsoft, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role.
Singleton praised Patil’s business acumen, technical skills, and understanding of users, highlighting his contributions to engineering excellence at Stripe. However, Singleton has been discreet about details regarding his upcoming venture, having previously spent over a decade at Google before joining Stripe.
