Standard Chartered is effectively leveraging its internal talent through an innovative AI-driven marketplace designed to align employees’ skill sets with project-specific assignments.
Employees receive a "Skills Passport" that showcases their capabilities beyond their standard job roles. When managers list project-based opportunities on the Talent Marketplace, employees can apply using their Skills Passport, highlighting their qualifications for various tasks.
Every completed project enhances an employee’s Skills Passport, illustrating their contributions and expanding their skillset. As employees improve their passports, they gain access to a broader range of internal opportunities that reflect their growing expertise.
While acknowledging potential concerns from some managers regarding employees taking on additional projects, the bank has implemented a cap, ensuring that no employee spends more than eight hours per week on these side assignments.
Currently, over 39,000 employees participate in the internal talent marketplace, which has generated more than $8.5 million in increased productivity through more than 2,700 project engagements.
Tanuj Kapilashrami, Chief Strategy and Talent Officer at Standard Chartered, remarks, “This initiative democratizes access to opportunities and creates a platform for individuals to utilize their skills. It allows employees to reskill or upskill, enhancing their employability for the future.”
