SEC Establishes AI Task Force

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched an AI task force aimed at integrating artificial intelligence into its operations.

To lead this initiative, the SEC has appointed Valerie Szczepanik, the former head of the agency’s Strategic Hub for Innovation and Financial Technology, as its first Chief AI Officer. In this role, she will centralize the SEC’s efforts, promote internal collaboration across different departments, and manage the AI lifecycle while ensuring effective governance.

SEC Chairman Paul S. Atkins stated, “The AI Task Force will empower staff across the SEC with AI-enabled tools and systems to responsibly augment their capacity, accelerate innovation, and enhance efficiency and accuracy. By ingraining innovation into our culture agency-wide, we will further our mission to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.”
