Santander’s Openbank digital banking service has officially launched in Mexico, following its recent introduction in the United States.
The Openbank website and mobile app now provide Mexican customers with a range of debit and savings products, featuring no minimum balance requirements or hidden fees. Additionally, users can benefit from 24/7 telephone support and access to a network of 10,000 Santander ATMs across Mexico at no extra cost.
Openbank, which is already operational in Spain, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, and the US, utilizes a proprietary cloud-based platform developed in-house. Santander plans to implement this technology across all of its global consumer operations.
This advanced platform seamlessly integrates the bank’s core banking system with a customer-facing interface and data management layer, enabling users to open accounts in as little as five minutes through the Openbank app or website.
Matías Núñez, CEO of Openbank Mexico, emphasized the service’s competitive edge: “Our offering merges a highly sophisticated digital banking experience with innovative fintech solutions, backed by the assurance of a renowned international financial institution.”
Petri Nikkila, global CEO of Openbank, also highlighted the significance of this launch: “Openbank’s banking model plays a crucial role in Santander’s digital transformation strategy. Mexico represents a lucrative opportunity for a cutting-edge digital bank like Openbank.”
