Vlad Tenev, co-founder and CEO of Robinhood, stated that the entire financial market is destined for tokenisation. Speaking at a conference in Singapore, he likened tokenisation to “a freight train” that will impact the entire financial system.
When asked about the timeline for this transformation, Tenev anticipated that most countries could have a tokenisation framework established within five years, although full tokenisation of financial instruments may take up to a decade.
Robinhood has recently taken steps towards tokenisation, launching 200 tokenised U.S. stocks on the Ethereum network for European users in June. In Europe, efforts are underway to create a framework for tokenisation through the Markets in Crypto-Assets Act.
In contrast, Tenev expressed concerns about the U.S. market’s progress. He remarked, “Unfortunately, but realistically, the U.S. will probably be somewhat behind. The U.S. will likely be the last economy to fully tokenise. But it’s inevitable.”
