Robinhood Appoints CEO Ahead of UK Launch

American stock trading app Robinhood has appointed Jordan Sinclair, a Freetrade executive, to spearhead its renewed plans for a launch in the UK.

Sinclair has been approved by the FCA to serve as the chief executive of Robinhood UK Ltd, according to a registry cited by Bloomberg. He has held the position of managing director, Europe, at Freetrade for just over a year and previously worked at Barclays.

Robinhood aims to introduce its brokerage services to UK retail investors later this year. In 2020, the company had to abandon its initial UK launch due to operational challenges stemming from a surge in day trading in its primary US market during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, Robinhood announced its intention to acquire the London-based cryptocurrency firm Ziglu in preparation for this second attempt to enter the UK market.
