Fintech Autopay has launched a biometric palm-authentication payment system in Poland, while Tencent is targeting Thailand to introduce its biometrics-based payments technology in Southeast Asia.
Autopay’s HandGo technology eliminates the need for shoppers to carry an external device. At checkout, users scan their palm, and a linked card in the company’s app processes the payment.
Andrzej Antoń, CEO of Autopay, stated, “The solution will revolutionize shopping, particularly in the wellness and sports sectors. Purchasing will no longer require a smartphone or smartwatch; users will simply need the unique palm of their hand, which cannot be forged or left behind.”
Meanwhile, Tencent’s cloud division is exploring biometric payment opportunities in Thailand, as reported by local sources. The company is looking to collaborate with various sectors, including financial services, telecom, retail, education, entertainment, and public services for its palm technology.
Thailand is viewed as a strategic entry point for Tencent into other ASEAN markets like Indonesia and Malaysia, especially as the country pursues a digital transformation and a ‘Cloud First’ policy.
