Point72 Ventures has terminated five of their investors, including three from the fintech sector and two from their digital assets team, as reported by two sources familiar with the matter.
According to sources that spoke to Forbes, this decision is part of a strategic shift towards investing in AI and defense technology startups. Earlier this year, the venture capital firm participated in a seed funding round for ValidMind, an AI risk management platform.
There are indications that partners Tripp Shriner and Sugam Sarin may also be affected by this shift, though they could potentially remain with the firm. A spokesperson for Point72 stated, “We are always evaluating our portfolio’s performance and market opportunity, and optimizing our strategy and resources around what we think is the biggest opportunity set.”
In recent developments, Point72 Ventures supported Brightwave, an AI-powered financial research assistant, marking a change from previous investment strategies that included companies like Trade Ledger and Swiss B2B fintech firm Gen Two.
