PayPal Introduces Contactless Mobile Wallet in Germany

PayPal is taking a significant step in expanding its presence on the high street with the launch of a contactless mobile wallet in Germany. This new feature allows users to make in-store payments and pay in instalments simply by tapping their phones.

In a global first, the latest version of the PayPal app will provide users in Germany with a contactless payment option. Shoppers can select PayPal for payments at any location that accepts Mastercard contactless transactions.

Additionally, PayPal introduces its Pay Later feature for in-store purchases in Germany, allowing customers to pay in three, six, 12, or 24-month instalments with “Ratenzahlung To Go.” Users can also activate special offers within the app to earn cashback, which they can receive when paying contactless at various German retailers.

Joerg Kablitz, Managing Director of PayPal for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, stated, “While cash still has its place, many consumers and businesses are looking for innovative alternatives. We believe PayPal offers a better experience than cash. Our app will simplify and secure in-store payments, providing more choices in how and when you pay, and helping users save money.”
