NatWest has officially become the first bank in the UK to offer Mastercard’s Click to Pay feature to all its customers.
Having been in trial for several months, Click to Pay allows users to store multiple cards on their mobile device, enabling them to shop online at guest checkouts without the need to enter card details or passwords. Users simply access their profile and tap the Click to Pay icon at participating retailers to automatically fill in order forms and confirm their purchases.
To enhance security, card numbers are masked to prevent fraud, and any card details are updated automatically if a new card is issued. NatWest has collaborated with Mastercard to set up customer profiles and debit cards for Click to Pay, with plans to expand the service to credit cards in the coming months.
Salim Secretary, head of payment schemes, partnerships, and commercial at NatWest, stated: "We’ve made it as easy as possible for customers to start using Click to Pay. There is no sign-up required, and the service can be used on any site displaying the Click to Pay logo."
Kelly Devine, president of UK and Ireland at Mastercard, commented: “Many consumers still use guest checkouts when shopping online, so Click to Pay reduces hassle and the need to remember multiple passwords. Approximately one in three consumer debit cards in the UK are now issued on Mastercard’s network, and we are working with partners like NatWest to ensure their customers have access to the best in payment innovation and technology.”
