NatWest App Malfunction Prevents Customers from Making Payments

The NatWest banking app experienced technical difficulties for the second time in three months, leaving numerous customers unable to make payments or fund transfers on Friday morning.

More than a thousand frustrated users reported issues on the DownDetector site, starting around 7:00 AM, with 67% indicating mobile banking problems and 20% experiencing issues with fund transfers. NatWest confirmed that the problem was resolved by approximately 9:30 AM, coinciding with payday for millions across the UK.

The NatWest support team on X was actively addressing complaints, including concerns from customers eager to secure tickets for the Oasis reunion. One user tweeted: “@NatWest_Help your app is on the fritz. I get logged out every time I try to authorize a payment. Please sort this out before Oasis tickets go on sale or you’re going to have a lot of angry customers!”

This recent outage follows another incident at the end of May, when thousands reported being unable to access mobile and online banking services.
