Sujata Bhatia, the Chief Operating Officer of Monzo, announced her departure from the UK digital bank after five impactful years. She shared her decision via LinkedIn, reflecting on the challenges of leaving a thriving company and a team filled with exceptional talent. “There’s never a good time to leave a company that’s on a tear and has some of the best and smartest people driving it forward, but in many ways, that’s exactly why it feels like the right time,” she expressed.
Bhatia joined Monzo in 2020, transitioning from American Express where she had a distinguished 15-year career, culminating in the role of General Manager for Europe in global merchant services. Monzo has yet to disclose her successor.
During her tenure, Bhatia highlighted several key accomplishments that contributed to Monzo’s remarkable growth, including expanding the customer base from three million to 11 million and increasing annual revenues from £60 million to £1 billion. Regarding her future plans, she stated, “I’m not ready to talk about next steps just yet, but I will share them when I’m able.”
