Mobile Bancassurance Startup Habitto Secures $3.9 Million in Funding

Habitto, a Tokyo-based startup aiming to transform money habits through a mobile bancassurance platform, has successfully raised $3.9 million in a pre-Series A financing round.

The funding was co-led by Saison Capital and Cherubic Ventures, with participation from new investors including DG Daiwa Ventures, GMO Ventures, Kyokuto Securities, Epic Angels, and various individual angel investors. This latest round follows a previous seed round, where the company raised $3.4 million in September 2021, also led by Saison Capital.

Habitto is focused on alleviating the financial anxiety prevalent among the Japanese population regarding their future. The platform integrates savings, investments, and life insurance products, all supported by financial advisors. SJ Mobiles Labs, which operates Habitto, became the first non-Japanese company to receive a New Financial Service Intermediary license in October 2022.

The Habitto team has completed a closed beta that provided free financial advice to participants in December 2022 and plans to officially launch to the public in the second quarter of this year.

Liam McCance, chief creative officer and co-founder, noted, “The financial advice offered in our private beta yielded promising results. While many participants had little to no previous experience with independent financial advice, most recognized its necessity and expressed a willingness to pay for such access.”
