Metro Bank’s CFO James Hopkinson Resigns

Metro Bank has announced that CFO James Hopkinson will leave his position after joining in September 2022. According to Reuters, a spokesperson for Metro Bank stated that Hopkinson is departing for personal reasons, with his exit planned for the first quarter of 2024.

Cristina Alba Ochoa will serve as the interim CFO starting January 15. Previously, she held the CFO position at OakNorth.

This announcement follows a challenging period for Metro Bank towards the end of 2023. Last October, the bank was involved in a £925 million rescue deal and was in negotiations to sell £3 billion of its mortgage book before ultimately deciding against it. In November 2023, the bank was also planning to reduce branch opening hours and cut its workforce by 20%, potentially affecting around 850 employees.
