LSEG Announces New Marketplace Powered by Blockchain Technology

The London Stock Exchange (LSE) is in the process of developing a new digital marketplace utilizing blockchain technology.

Murray Roos, head of capital markets at LSE Group, mentioned to the Financial Times that the firm has chosen to advance the project after a year of internal discussions regarding the potential of a blockchain-based trading platform. The UK exchange is considering establishing a separate entity for this initiative and is currently in talks with the UK government and regulators about the proposal.

Roos emphasized that the project is not related to cryptocurrencies; instead, it aims to incorporate blockchain technology to enhance the efficiency of buying, selling, and holding traditional assets. “The idea is to use digital technology to create a process that is slicker, smoother, cheaper, and more transparent . . . and to have it regulated,” Roos stated.
