Lloyds Introduces In-App Barcode Scanning for Cash Deposits at PayPoint Stores

Lloyds is the first major UK bank to introduce a mobile app feature that enables customers to deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations nationwide using a simple barcode.

Starting at the end of the month, users can access the ‘Everyday’ section of the app to generate a barcode, allowing them to deposit up to £300 per day in notes and coins, with a maximum of £600 per month. The barcode will remain valid for two hours.

With 99.5% of people living within a mile of a PayPoint store, this new feature is set to benefit customers as banks and ATMs continue to vanish from the high street. In 2024, Lloyds announced the closure of 292 branches in 2025 and earlier revealed plans to shut down 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax, and 14 Bank of Scotland branches over the next several months.

Gabby Collins, payments director at Lloyds, stated, “We’re always looking for smart ways to make banking more flexible and give customers more choice. Our latest app feature allows customers to pay in cash at their local PayPoint in just a few minutes—perfect for quick errands like grabbing milk or dropping off a parcel.”
