Over a million Americans have registered for Klarna’s debit card within just eleven weeks of its launch.
Launched in the US on July 4, the Klarna Card allows consumers to choose between paying upfront or in installments, both in-store and online. Klarna reports that Americans are signing up at a rate of 13,000 daily, with a peak of 50,000 sign-ups on September 23.
David Sandström, Klarna’s chief marketing officer, commented, “The amazing response to our card in the US shows just how strong the demand is for a fairer, more transparent way to pay. With the Klarna Card, consumers get the best of both worlds: the simplicity of a debit card with the flexibility of credit.”
The success of the US launch has prompted the company to begin issuing cards in additional markets. Klarna is currently rolling out the card to customers in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden, with plans to expand into Denmark, Germany, Norway, and Poland in the near future.
