Griffin, a UK Banking-as-a-Service provider that obtained its full banking license in March of last year, is set to enhance customer experience by introducing access to a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This advancement aims to empower AI agents to autonomously execute tasks on behalf of users.
According to a representative from Griffin, this initiative marks a significant technological transition that encourages individuals to delegate increasing amounts of work to AI systems. “While there have been some initial experiments with AI agents handling financial transactions—often limited to simple tasks like purchasing a coffee—we believe there is much more potential. To realize this vision, it’s essential to fundamentally transform the financial system, ensuring it can support unrestricted transactions by agents, while maintaining necessary safeguards,” the spokesperson elaborated.
Potential applications for this technology include comprehensive wealth management, payment administration, and transactional functionalities. The bank emphasizes that, although currently in a beta phase, the MCP server showcases the impressive capabilities that lie ahead. “Users can leverage the Griffin MCP server to facilitate account openings, execute payments, and analyze historical data. Additionally, it allows for the development of complete prototypes for fintech applications using the Griffin API, a process we are already witnessing from customers in real-time.”
At present, access to the MCP server is confined to a sandbox environment, and Griffin is actively seeking customer feedback as it prepares for deployment in a production setting.
