Google Introduces Agentic Shopping Experience

Google is set to introduce an agentic shopping experience within search results, allowing shoppers to specify a desired price for a product and enabling an AI agent to handle the purchase.

At the annual I/O conference, Google unveiled AI Mode for online shopping. This feature showcases websites that sell products, offers virtual try-ons for clothing, and facilitates automatic checkouts for users.

After searching for a product, users can add items to their online shopping cart and check out automatically. They have the option to review the transaction and either pay themselves or let the AI agent complete the payment.

Additionally, AI Mode can track prices and notify users when a watched product reaches their target price. Set to launch in the US in the coming months, Google aims for agentic checkout to help users purchase at a budget-friendly price.

To utilize this feature, users can simply tap “track price” on a product listing, choose their preferred options, and specify their budget. They’ll receive notifications for price drops, and when ready to buy, can confirm the details and tap “buy for me.” The AI will then add the item to the cart on the merchant’s site and securely finalize the checkout using Google Pay.
