Google and PayPal have entered into a multi-year partnership aimed at enhancing agentic shopping and streamlining commerce payments.
The collaboration focuses on developing innovative AI shopping experiences by integrating PayPal’s infrastructure with Google’s Agent Payments Protocol for agentic payments. This protocol utilizes mandates—tamper-proof, cryptographically-signed digital contracts—which provide verifiable proof of user instructions. Google asserts that this will improve the shopping experience in two key scenarios: real-time purchases with a human present and delegated tasks without their presence.
As part of the partnership, PayPal’s branded checkout, Hyperwallet, and Payouts will be integrated across Google’s shopping and payment platforms. Additionally, PayPal’s enterprise payments division will become a primary provider for processing card payments across services like Google Cloud, Google Ads, and Google Play.
“In this emerging world of agentic commerce, trust and innovation are key,” states Alex Chriss, president and CEO of PayPal. “Together with Google, we are paving the way for digital commerce and creating greater opportunities for merchants and users worldwide. We are bringing PayPal’s products and services to billions of Google users and redefining what is possible on a global scale.”
