A new financial support initiative is set to launch in November, designed to assist businesses and commercial vehicle operators in applying for central government funding to purchase low-emission vehicles. This initiative comes in anticipation of the Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone, which will take effect on May 30, 2022.
The service utilizes QV Systems’ Accelerate technology, an automated, end-to-end platform for automotive lending. This system will allow businesses to quickly determine their eligibility for grants and subsidized financing, enabling them to upgrade their vehicles or fleets to ensure compliance with the new Clean Air Zone regulations, thus avoiding penalties for driving within the zone.
Councillor Andrew Western, who leads the Clean Air initiative in Greater Manchester, stated, “As a city region, we are dedicated to addressing air pollution, which poses significant public health risks and contributes to around 1,200 premature deaths each year in Greater Manchester.”
The government has mandated Greater Manchester to reduce roadside nitrogen dioxide levels to acceptable limits as swiftly as possible. Western emphasized, “Our Clean Air Plan not only meets these government requirements but also provides vital funding support for businesses and organizations that need to upgrade their vehicles to comply with new standards.”
To apply, businesses simply need to input their details to see if they qualify for funding. Eligible users will be presented with various financing options from accredited lenders and brokers.
Daniel Layne, founder and CEO of QV Systems, noted, “This decade is poised to undergo a significant transformation in personal transportation, with a move away from petrol and diesel vehicles toward more sustainable options. The UK’s clean air targets and the transition to greener fleets are among the most ambitious globally.”
Layne added, “Local authorities face the challenge of facilitating access to government funding for businesses. Greater Manchester exemplifies how effective technologies like Accelerate can successfully implement these initiatives within tight timeframes, fostering cleaner, healthier urban environments for all.”
