Ralph Hamers, the former CEO of UBS, has taken on the role of external senior advisor at Arta Finance, an innovative digital wealth management startup that leverages artificial intelligence. Arta Finance was founded by ex-Google executives and aims to democratize access to sophisticated financial tools typically reserved for the ultra-wealthy.
Hamers, who departed from UBS last year, has also invested in Arta, joining an array of early-stage investors, including former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Under the leadership of Caesar Sengupta, a former Google vice president, Arta emerged from stealth mode in 2022, promising to provide advanced financial solutions to a broader audience.
The firm offers an AI-driven assistant that claims to function as an “investment team” for clients—providing resources akin to those of dedicated investment analysts, researchers, and bankers to aid users in building and managing their public market portfolios.
Initially launched for accredited investors in the United States, Arta has since expanded its reach to Singapore and has plans to enter additional markets, including India. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Hamers expressed enthusiasm about his new role, stating, “My background is really at the intersection of technology and finance. I see this as a culmination of my career where I can support these efforts.”
Hamers joined UBS in 2020 after a lengthy 29-year tenure with Dutch bank ING. His departure from UBS followed the acquisition of Credit Suisse, leading to the appointment of his predecessor, Sergio Ermotti.
