Flagstar Bank Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of 1.5 Million Customers

US-based Flagstar Bank has experienced a data breach affecting over 1.5 million customers. The incident occurred over two days in December, during which attackers accessed customer names and other personal identifiers in conjunction with social security numbers.

In a breach incident notice to customers, the bank stated, “After an extensive forensic investigation and manual document review, we discovered on June 2, 2022, that certain impacted files containing your personal information were accessed and/or acquired from our network between December 3, 2021, and December 4, 2021. We have no evidence that any of the information has been misused. Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, we want to make you aware of the incident.”

Flagstar Bank, which was also recently targeted in the Accellion corporate document breach, is offering affected customers two years of complimentary identity monitoring services from Kroll. This includes credit monitoring, fraud consultation, and identity theft restoration assistance.
