Ex-Bank Employee Sentenced to Prison for £130,000 Fraud Scheme

A former bank employee and his accomplice have received a combined sentence of five years and seven months in prison for stealing £130,000 from customer accounts.

Nathan Gilbert, 26, from Enfield, North London, worked at a bank in Muswell Hill where he altered customers’ account details and fraudulently issued bank passbooks. He collaborated with Daniel Frank, 46, from East Finchley, North London, to execute the fraud against multiple customers.

CCTV footage showed that Frank had organized for individuals to visit the bank branches where Gilbert was employed, pretending to be the customers to withdraw funds or make changes to their accounts.

On October 7, 2021, authorities arrested Gilbert and confiscated his mobile phone for analysis. Messages found on his phone linked him directly to the victims and revealed his communications with Frank.

Gilbert pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the UK banking industry and fraud by abusing his position of trust, receiving a sentence of two years and three months in prison. Frank also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the banking sector and was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
