The European Commission has adopted rules regarding the core functionalities and certification of European Digital Identity Wallets as the 2026 deadline approaches.
The approved regulations under the European Digital Identity Framework set uniform standards, specifications, and procedures for the technical functionalities of the wallets. This includes data formats necessary for the cross-border use of digital documents and related measures.
Additionally, the regulations establish specifications and procedures to create a framework for the certification of these wallets.
Data will be stored locally within the wallets, allowing users to control what information they share without any tracking or profiling. A built-in privacy dashboard will also be available to help users monitor where their wallet information has been shared.
