Danske Bank to Switch to Recycled Materials for Payment Cards

Danske Bank is set to retire all current payment cards in favor of new cards composed of 86% recycled plastic.

The rollout will begin with the launch of these environmentally friendly cards for Danske Bank’s Pocket Money account, designed for children aged eight to 14. Following an initial trial phase, the bank will progressively replace standard plastic payment cards—both Visa/Dankort and Mastercard—for its entire customer base.

Rene Thejsen, head of cards and consumer payments at Danske Bank, stated, “We recognize that our more sustainable payment cards won’t single-handedly resolve global climate issues, but they represent a meaningful step forward.”
