CommBank has recently secured a five-year partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), reinforcing its commitment to leveraging cloud technology as its preferred provider.
This strategic agreement played a crucial role in the development of the CommBiz Gen AI-powered messaging service, designed specifically for business banking clients. Notably, this innovative solution moved from concept to production in a mere six weeks.
The Gen AI messaging service streamlines the payment process for customers by rapidly retrieving information from over 80 different user guides, FAQs, and other resources within the CommBiz platform, all while utilizing natural language for efficient communication.
Rodrigo Castillo, Chief Technology Officer at CommBank, highlights that the bank’s advancements in development, security, and operations—alongside its cloud modernization initiatives—have resulted in a twofold increase in its capability to implement changes in production.
The ongoing cloud modernization efforts are anticipated to further enhance the bank’s technological framework, accelerating the adoption of AI. This initiative has already led to a doubling of AI models, with the number exceeding 2,000 by the year 2024, following the unveiling of CommBank’s AI Factory in September 2024.
“As digital banking adoption continues to rise, we are leveraging AI and cloud technologies to provide quicker, safer, and more tailored banking services,” Castillo states. “AI is facilitating the creation of innovative customer experiences at an unprecedented pace, allowing us to develop and launch new AI-enhanced products and features in a secure and responsible manner.”
