Checkout.com Billionaire Founder Relocates from London to Monaco

The billionaire CEO of payments processor Checkout.com, Guillaume Pousaz, has relocated from the UK to the tax haven of Monaco. Pousaz, who was born in Switzerland and founded Checkout.com in 2012, has an estimated net worth of $6 billion. His move comes just a year after he arrived in London from Dubai, as reported by the Telegraph.

There are no indications that the company’s London headquarters will be affected by his relocation. This decision allows Pousaz to circumvent changes to the UK’s non-dom regime and increased capital gains taxes introduced by Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachael Reeves as part of last year’s Budget.

He is among several wealthy individuals who have left the UK following these changes; Goldman Sachs’ vice chairman for Europe, Richard Gnodde, moved to Milan, and steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal is also rumored to be departing.

Checkout.com offers merchants an integrated platform that combines payments, fraud monitoring, and analytics, serving notable clients including Alibaba, Ikea, Remitly, and Wise. In 2022, the firm achieved a valuation of $40 billion following a $1 billion Series D funding round. Although its valuation dropped in the post-pandemic period, it is aiming for full-year profitability in 2025 after experiencing a 45% year-on-year net revenue growth in its core business for the latter part of 2024.
