Bank of New York Mellon is advancing its integration of artificial intelligence by granting numerous AI agents their own individual logins, with plans to soon provide them with email accounts.
Leigh-Ann Russell, the bank’s Chief Information Officer, shared insights with the Wall Street Journal regarding the establishment of two distinct AI worker personas within the bank’s AI division: one focused on code optimization and the other on validating payment instructions.
These AI agents are assigned direct supervisors and, equipped with their own logins to access applications similar to their human counterparts, are capable of operating independently. Each agent is restricted to a specific team, ensuring that access to information is carefully controlled.
Furthermore, the bank intends to enhance the functionality of its digital employees by providing them with email accounts, and potentially access to Microsoft Teams, enabling communication with their human colleagues for issue resolution. Despite these advancements, BNY Mellon emphasizes that it continues to prioritize the hiring of human staff alongside the development of its AI capabilities.
