Bhutan Introduces World’s First National Crypto Tourism Payment System

Bhutan has partnered with Binance and DK Bank to introduce a pioneering national crypto payments system for tourists.

Travelers to the South Asian country can now use Binance Pay for a range of expenses, including airline tickets, tourist visas, hotel bookings, tour guides, and even fresh fruit from roadside vendors. Payments can be made in over 100 cryptocurrencies using both static and dynamic QR codes, facilitated by DK Bank, Bhutan’s first fully digital lender. Currently, over 100 merchants have adopted this system.

Richard Teng, CEO of Binance, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to partner with Bhutan as we are not only advancing the use of cryptocurrencies in travel but also setting a precedent for how technology can bridge cultures and economies.”

Damcho Rinzin, director of the Department of Tourism in Bhutan, emphasized that this initiative goes beyond just a payment solution, highlighting its commitment to innovation, inclusion, and convenience.
