BBVA is enhancing its partnership with Google Cloud by implementing Google Workspace integrated with Gemini, aligning with its strategy for AI adoption on a global scale. This initiative aims to equip over 100,000 employees around the world with secure access to generative AI features within tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets.
Employees have already reported significant benefits from AI usage, averaging a savings of nearly three hours per week by automating repetitive tasks. This time savings allows staff to dedicate more effort to strategic, customer-focused activities. This rollout follows the bank’s earlier introduction of 11,000 ChatGPT licenses from OpenAI.
Under the new agreement with Google, BBVA employees will leverage Gemini to streamline their workflow—summarizing, drafting, and retrieving information across emails and files, as well as creating professional documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and videos, and even taking notes during calls.
In addition to Google Workspace with Gemini, BBVA staff will have access to the standalone Gemini app and NotebookLM, an AI-driven research and writing assistant that aids in tasks such as gathering information, generating audio summaries of complex findings, and drafting reports.
Juan Ortigosa, global head of Workplace at BBVA, stated, “BBVA transformed the way we work with Google Workspace over a decade ago. We anticipate that the broad integration of generative AI within these tools will significantly enhance productivity and improve the overall work experience for all employees, fostering a more dynamic and efficient workplace.”
Alongside this AI initiative, BBVA has implemented a mandatory training program called ‘AI Express’. This program is designed to promote the responsible and secure use of artificial intelligence across various applications. Access to Google Workspace with Gemini, the Gemini app, and NotebookLM will be contingent upon completion of this internal training, ensuring that teams can utilize generative AI tools both effectively and ethically in accordance with BBVA’s AI governance standards.
