BBVA Partners with AWS to Launch New Data Platform

BBVA has chosen Amazon Web Services (AWS) to implement a cutting-edge data platform designed to securely manage its operational and customer data.

Utilizing AWS Lake Formation and Amazon DataZone, the bank will establish a robust framework for building, managing, and securing the data platform, ensuring adherence to data governance and compliance standards. This innovative approach aims to merge data lakes and data warehouses, granting business units a comprehensive view of their data while enhancing processing, analysis, and insights.

In addition to this, Amazon SageMaker will empower over 1,000 data scientists at BBVA’s AI Factory, along with specialized data teams, to create, train, and deploy machine learning models tailored to various use cases, facilitating more efficient data analysis.

The platform promises unmatched scalability, flexibility, and efficiency in handling substantial data volumes for more than 2,800 data engineers and architects. BBVA will also leverage AWS’s generative AI capabilities and large language models, including Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service providing foundational models via an API, to explore advanced technology applications.

Ricardo Oliver, BBVA’s Global Head of Data Engineering, commented: “By harnessing the power of AWS in our data strategy, we are enhancing our data management skills, democratizing access to data, and utilizing AWS’s analytical capabilities to maximize the effectiveness of our data initiatives. This strategic partnership aligns seamlessly with our goal of becoming a truly data- and AI-driven digital organization.”
