Barclays and BNP Paribas Make Strategic Investment in Capitolis

Barclays and BNP Paribas have become the latest prominent banks to invest in Capitolis, boosting the capital markets technology firm’s funding round to an impressive $56 million.

Joining existing investor JP Morgan in this round are notable venture capital firms including Canapi Ventures, 9Yards Capital, and Greenfield Partners. This follows recent investments from Citi, Morgan Stanley, State Street, and UBS that took place in November.

Founded by industry veterans Gil Mandelzis (formerly of Traiana and Icap), Tom Glocer (former CEO of Thomson Reuters), and Igor Teleshevsky (also from Traiana), Capitolis is developing a suite of innovative products and services aimed at optimizing capital markets and addressing the inefficiencies associated with under-utilized capital.

Kester Keating, head of US principal investments at Barclays, expressed confidence in Capitolis’s potential, stating, “We’re pleased to support the ongoing development of innovative products by Capitolis, and this investment further cements the collaboration between our firms.”

Capitolis CEO Gil Mandelzis noted, “These investments will help us further accelerate our growth and expansion in the capital markets as we continue our strong business momentum.”
