Bank of the West is introducing a new checking account in collaboration with 1% for the Planet, aimed at empowering consumers to take action against climate change.
This innovative account incorporates a carbon tracking tool developed by Doconomy, which provides insights into the carbon footprint associated with each purchase. Additionally, account holders will receive a biodegradable debit card, reinforcing the commitment to environmental sustainability.
A key feature of this initiative is the allocation of one percent of net revenues generated from the account to support environmental nonprofit organizations dedicated to fostering a healthier planet. The inaugural recipient of these funds will be Protect Our Winters (POW), an organization focused on climate advocacy.
Ben Stuart, Chief Marketing Officer at Bank of the West, emphasizes the importance of individual action in combating climate change. “Many people feel uncertain about how to contribute personally. The 1% for the Planet Account not only allows customers to partner with a bank that champions progressive energy policies and aligns with the Paris Accord but also ensures that one percent of account revenues directly funds climate change solutions without any cost to the consumer.”
