Australian financial services firm AMP has partnered with Engine by Starling to launch a new digital bank tailored for small business owners and everyday customers.
This new mobile-first bank is designed to support Australia’s millions of small business owners, including micro businesses, solopreneurs, and side hustlers, allowing them to manage their operations on the go. It is built on Engine, an API-based, cloud-native platform developed by the UK digital bank Starling.
Customers will benefit from enhanced fraud protection and identity theft safeguards, including Australia’s first numberless debit cards for small businesses and selfie-style video identity verification. They will also have access to 24/7 human support via phone and live chat.
The platform offers smooth integration between personal and business banking, featuring self-service tools that provide insights and control, such as spending breakdowns across merchants and suppliers. Additionally, the bank introduces market-first access to Starling’s ‘Spaces’ feature, allowing users to create virtual sub-accounts to streamline tax payments, payroll, and other financial commitments.
Sean O’Malley, group executive of AMP Bank Group, expressed enthusiasm about the launch: “We are excited to unveil our new digital bank, purposefully designed to transform the banking experience for Australia’s micro-businesses, side hustlers, and everyday banking customers. We have sought out the best banking technology globally to deliver what we believe will be Australia’s leading mobile digital banking experience, complete with advanced cybersecurity, fraud protection, and integration capabilities for top small business software solutions.”
