AIB Launches Optional Gambling Block Feature

AIB is the latest bank to introduce a voluntary block feature for debit and credit card transactions related to gambling. Customers of the Irish lender can now call a helpline to request a block on their personal or business cards, preventing transactions identified as gambling.

In addition to this feature, AIB provides a variety of support and resources for individuals experiencing gambling issues. The bank highlights data from gamblingcare.ie, indicating that many people first reveal their gambling problems to their financial institution instead of confiding in family or friends.

This initiative has received support from GAA All Ireland Football Championship winner Oisín McConville, who has openly shared his journey of overcoming gambling addiction. McConville stated, “I am very pleased to see AIB is offering this voluntary gambling block to help their customers begin to tackle their gambling problems. I would like to reassure people that you can recover, that there is life after gambling addiction, and that help is available to anyone who needs it.”
