ABN Amro Unveils Mortgage Discounts for Energy-Efficient Homes

ABN Amro is introducing a sustainability discount on mortgage interest rates aimed at promoting energy-efficient homes.

The bank will evaluate properties based on the European Union’s Energy Label categorization. Homeowners whose properties are classified in the top A category will receive a 0.15% reduction on their interest rates, while those with B-rated homes will benefit from a 0.1% discount.

“We strive to achieve an average energy label of A for all residential and commercial properties we finance by 2030,” said a spokesperson from the bank. “This sustainability discount is designed to incentivize our clients to enhance the environmental performance of their homes.”

Both existing and new mortgage customers can qualify for this rate reduction if they improve their homes’ sustainability during the initial fixed-interest period and register their energy label—either A or B—within a 24-month timeframe.

ABN Amro will proactively obtain energy labels from the Rijksdienst Voor Ondernemend Nederland (Netherlands Enterprise Agency), ensuring that clients receive the discount automatically without needing to apply separately, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
