Crypto payments firm MoonPay has acquired Meso, a startup established by former PayPal executives to connect traditional finance with digital assets. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
MoonPay stated that this deal, following the earlier acquisitions of crypto payments processor Helio and stablecoin infrastructure platform Iron, aims to create a unified global payments network.
Ali Aghareza, a member of the original engineering team at Braintree who later led engineering at PayPal, will take on the role of chief technology officer at MoonPay. His co-founder, Ben Mills, who previously served as head of developer experience at Braintree and head of product at Venmo, will become SVP of product at MoonPay.
Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO of MoonPay, commented, “We’ve built trusted ramps that brought millions into crypto; now we’re focusing on creating a global network that will facilitate money movement across all forms in every market. Ali and Ben’s experience at Braintree, Venmo, and PayPal positions them as ideal leaders to integrate banks, card networks, stablecoins, and blockchains into a single system.”
