Robinhood Launches Fund to Provide Retail Investors Access to Private Markets

Robinhood is set to unveil its new fund aimed at providing retail investors with access to private markets.

The Robinhood Ventures Fund I (RVI) has officially submitted an initial registration statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to initiate a public offering of its shares.

Significantly, the number of publicly traded companies in the United States has diminished from approximately 7,000 in 2000 to nearly 4,000 by 2024, resulting in fewer investment opportunities for retail traders. In contrast, the private sector is experiencing growth, with the total value of private companies in the U.S. now exceeding $10 trillion.

This new fund follows the recent introduction of private tokenized stocks in Europe, reflecting Robinhood’s commitment to democratizing access to private investments. “For decades, affluent individuals and institutions have been able to invest in private firms while retail investors were largely excluded. With Robinhood Ventures, we are leveling the playing field, enabling everyday people to invest in opportunities that were previously only accessible to the elite,” stated Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev.
