BBVA Earns Praise from OpenAI for ChatGPT-5 Trials

OpenAI has recognized BBVA as an early adopter of its latest language model within the financial industry, significantly reducing the time required for various technical tasks.

The partnership between BBVA and OpenAI commenced in May 2024, resulting in the deployment of 11,000 licenses across the Spanish banking institution. Notably, over 80% of users engage with these licenses on a daily basis, reporting an average savings of nearly three hours each week on routine responsibilities.

The newly released version of ChatGPT has introduced enhancements in several key areas, including accuracy, speed, reasoning, contextual understanding, structured thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.

At the launch of ChatGPT5, Olivier Godement, the global head of the platform at OpenAI, highlighted how BBVA has been actively evaluating the capabilities of the new model. This collaboration has empowered the bank to execute complex financial analysis tasks in just a few hours—work that traditionally required two to three weeks.

Elena Alfaro, BBVA’s global head of AI Adoption, stated, “GPT-5 represents a significant advancement for us at BBVA. It not only enhances the way our employees interact with AI by providing deeper and more useful responses but also propels us closer to our goal of achieving multi-step agent automation. The new model is particularly promising in writing code and managing technical tasks.”

Alfaro also emphasized the model’s proficiency in the Spanish language, marking a substantial milestone in an era where many language models are predominantly trained in English.
