Swedbank Launches Global Hackathon to Combat Covid-19

Swedbank is hosting a global hackathon aimed at developing innovative solutions to address the challenges posed by Covid-19.

Scheduled from April 9-12, this initiative aspires to become the largest online hackathon worldwide, fostering collaboration among diverse companies and industries.

The momentum for this event began two weeks ago in Estonia, where Garage48 led an online hackathon focused on Covid-19 challenges. Following this, Latvia and Lithuania organized similar hackathons with Swedbank’s support.

Lotta Lovén, the head of digital banking and IT at Swedbank, emphasized, “In these challenging times, it is essential for us to unite globally to discover effective, innovative solutions that can help combat these issues.”

The Global Hack will feature 11 different tracks, each aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Each track operates as an independent global online hackathon, culminating in collective evaluations and insights.

Swedbank is particularly sponsoring the Economy track, aiming to cultivate new prototypes, concepts, and technological innovations that will help sustain market activity.

“This hackathon initiative originated in three of our four primary markets, making our support a natural fit. We encourage employees, customers, and industry peers to participate in this event,” Lovén stated. “By investing in the Economy track, we are tackling critical issues that will benefit both our customers and the broader community during these unprecedented times.”

The Global Hack is supported by a range of prominent international organizations and companies, including the European Commission, the World Health Organization, the World Economic Forum, the Global Entrepreneurship Network, LinkedIn, TED, Reddit, and Slack.
